In the second week of January, Granada will become a focal point for innovation, new technologies and open source software. As part of the Másdigital event, which includes the Open Source World Conference and the Encuentro de Dinamizadores Guadalinfo event, the city will host other forums. The following events will therefore take place around the OSWC:

Software Público Internacional (International Public Software)

This is a CLAD project (Latin American Centre for Administration Development), supported by the United Nations Development Program. Various Latin American countries participate in the project in order to develop e-Government applications in a coordinated way based on open source software, which allows these governments to maintain their technological independence while reducing their costs.

The Software Público Internacional meeting is part of a reverse trade mission that will give participants access to the business sector in Andalusia that works with open source software as well as the opportunity to collaborate with the regional government of Andalusia. Professionals from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela and Ecuador have been invited to participate.

W3C Day in Spain

This event has been held since 2006 and is designed as a discussion forum about web standards, while making the experiences of organisations and individuals available to the rest of the Spanish-speaking web community.

This year’s edition, organised by W3C Spain and the CTIC Foundation, will revolve around the Open Web Platform, a series of technologies that offer the possibility of a much faster and user friendly web. Another of the focal points for this event will be the movement involving open data and the reuse of public sector information

ISA Workshop - "European Public Administrations and Open Source Software: The Power of Communities”

The European Commission's ISA programme (Interoperability Solutions for European Public Administrations) is organising a workshop on the opportunities and challenges of public administrations working with communities of open source software developers.

The workshop, on 12 January, brings together twelve speakers, some with close ties to open source communities and others government representatives involved in the development of this type of software.

The programme is divided in three. The first session involves two well-connected developers of open source software. The second session will showcase three pan-European open source software development projects, and the third part consists of practical examples of public administration projects involving open source communities.

Round Table IWEEE Unconference: ‘Commitment’

IWEEE, the International Workshop on e-Health in Emerging Economies, is a biannual meeting held in Spain and Brazil. The theme for this edition organised by GNU Solidario is “Commitment”, which will highlight the commitment that everyone, and especially governments, must make to adopt open source software in education and healthcare.

The status of open source software in the healthcare sector, the level of adoption by governments in e-Health and public healthcare, and the need for open standards in medical information technology are just some of the issues that will be discussed.

CENATIC Executive Committee Meeting

CENATIC, the National Reference Centre for the Application of Information and Communication Technologies based on open sources (one of the leading institutions behind the OSWC), will hold its Executive Committee meeting in Granada at the same time as the other open source software events.

CENATIC is a state-run public foundation. Its Board of Trustees includes representatives from the regional governments of Andalusia, Asturias, Aragon, Cantabria, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country and Galicia. The company Telefónica is also part of the Board.

Meeting of CISI, the Interdepartmental Information Society Commission of the regional government of Andalusia

This is the collegiate body responsible for coordination and governance related to security with regards to the administration of the regional government of Andalusia. The meeting, organisation by the Regional Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Science of the Junta de Andalucía, aims to promote projects that contribute to implementing and developing information society in Andalusia, and the use and dissemination of these technologies in the public administration sector.
